FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR HOME UPGRADING AND MODIFICATION

Programs have been established to assist Saskatchewan homeowners with upgrading and home modification.

The Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP)

This program assists homeowners or occupiers in rural areas to complete emergency repairs for safety reasons. Eligible repairs include repairs to heating systems, chimneys, doors and windows, foundations, roofs, walls, floors, ceilings, vents, plumbing and electrical systems.

To qualify, homeowners/occupants must live in a rural area and have a total household income below the established income ceiling.

Home Adaptations for Seniors' Independence (HASI)

Saskatchewan seniors aged 65 and over who meet low income guidelines and have difficulties with daily living may qualify for this program. The home may be owned by the senior or a family member. Certain rental accommodation is also eligible with landlord consent.

Eligible work includes installing ramps and stairway lifts, remodeling bathroom/ kitchen facilities and fixtures, widening of doorways, installing handrails, air purifiers, modifying lighting and other appropriate modifications.

Home Modification for the Disabled

This is a grant intended for the physically disabled for modifications to their permanent residence to assist with daily living. Eligible modifications include installing access ramps and wheelchair lifts, widening doorways, remodelling bathroom facilities, installing air purifiers and modifying interior lights.
