THE TEXTILE LABELLING ACT

By law, the Textile Labelling Act and Textile Labelling and Advertising Regulations require that manufacturers, retailers, importers and distributors are required to put labels on clothing, carpets, upholstery, bedding and other household textiles, as well as tents. The textile label must indicate the following:

  • types of fibres contained in the fabric by generic name (i.e. cotton, polyester, nylon)
  • percentage of each fibre if a quantity more than 5 percent
  • the identity of the dealer by name and address or a CA identification number

Care labelling is not mandatory by law, but is often provided by the dealer as well.
