TEXTILE FLAMMABILITY

The Hazardous Products Act ensures that a basic, minimum flammability standard exists for all consumer textile articles, such as children's stuffed toys, children's sleepwear, bedding, carpets, rugs, mattresses and tents. Products which to not meet established criteria cannot be sold in Canada.

The Upholstered Furniture Action Council (UFAC) Flammability Program is a voluntary program for furniture manufacturers to meet certain flammability standards for upholstered furniture. In order to qualify in the UFAC program, manufacturers must use upholstery that have passed UFAC flammability tests, must meet certain construction criteria and must bear labelling indicating the compliance to UFAC standards.
